There is a link between time and the universal matter-energy (m/e) configuration that reveals the sequence of events, the simultaneities of events, the causalities of events, and the changerates (rates of change) of events.

Time = The use of a chosen duration for the time-interval which is the unit of temporal measurement which generates in timepieces their timerates (rates of ticking), timepoints (marks on a timeline), timeline (history, record, continuum), and timecount (accumulations by addition of timepoints on a timeline) for the measurement of the durations between multiple events, the durations of single events, and the durations (ages) of people and objects, and for the determination of the sequence of events, the simultaneities of events, the causalities of events, and the changerates of events, and for the coordination (synchronization) of events inre single and multiple reference frames/bodies.

The essence of time is the time-interval (TI).

There are two types of TIs: (1) The variable time-interval (VTI, which varies, distorts, when its timepiece is accelerated or decelerated—1971 Hafele-Keating C-Atom experiment); (2) The invariable time-interval (ITI, which is adjusted so it does not distort when its timepiece is accelerated or decelerated).

There are two types of timepieces: (1) The variable time-interval clock (VTIC); (2) The invariable time-interval clock (ITIC).

There are two types of ITICs: (1) The Radio ITIC (the Radio Clock, a design in which master clocks send radio signals which regulate the timerates of slave clocks); (2) The Inertial ITIC (the Inertial Clock, a design in which accelerometers are used to detect changes of the inertial states of a timepiece and a computer is used to correct the timepiece's timerate).

Radio clocks are in use as the standard clocks which provide the time standards by the USNO (US Naval Observatory), the US NIST (US National Institute of Standards and Technology), and the BIPM (Bureau Internationale des Poids et Mésures, France). The USNO radio clocks provide the time standard for the US GPS nav system. Radio ITICs are therefore realities.

Inertial clocks are in use in the inertial navigation systems aboard US Military aircraft, ships, submarines, tanks, etc. (Military personnel refer to an inertial navigation system as the INS.) Inertial ITICs are therefore realities.

There are two types of time: (1) The variable time-interval clock time (VTICT, Local Time, LT); (2) The invariable time-interval clock time (ITICT, Absolute Time, AT).

There are two types of continuums of time: (1) The VTICT Continuum of Time (VTICTCoT—The Continuum of Local Time, The CoLT); (2) The ITICT Continuum of Time (ITICTCoT—The Continuum of Absolute Time, The CoAT).

The Universal M/E System (UMES) = The totality of entities and events which are comprised of m/e.

NOTE: A closed/isolated m/e system is defined as an m/e system which does not exchange m/e with another m/e system. In a closed/isolated m/e system ...

... m/e cannot be removed,
... m/e cannot be added,
... and ...
... the m/e sum total is a constant.

The UMES is a closed/isolated m/e system because m/e cannot be removed (to where would the removed m/e be relocated?), m/e cannot be added (from what m/e system would additional m/e be removed and added to the UMES?), and the m/e sum total is a constant.

The UMES has a configuration, the universal m/e configuration (UMEC), at each timepoint on a timeline (continuum of time).

The UMEC is independent of observers—it is what it is for any and all observers.

The UMEC does not distort; it is what it is because its distances and durations do not distort regardless of who/what is observing it.

If a VTICTCoT is used for linking timepoints and UMECs, then distortions of rulers and clocks and observers riding in the same reference frame/on the same reference body caused by accelerations and decelerations which cause changes of the rulers' and clocks' inertial states and the inertial states of observers riding in the same reference frame/on the same reference body cause distortions of the measurements of the distances and durations of entities comprised of m/e with the UMEC.

If an ITICTCoT is used for linking timepoints and UMECs, then there are no distortions of rulers and clocks and observers riding in the same reference frame/on the same reference body caused by accelerations and decelerations which cause changes of the rulers' and clocks' inertial states and the inertial states of observers riding in the same reference frame/on the same reference body and therefore there are no distortions of the measurements of the distances and duration of entities comprised of m/e within the UMEC.

There are two ITICTCoTs:

(1) The Bipolar ITICTCoT ...

Past Infinity <- ... <- T-2 <- T-1 <- T0 (Origin/Present) -> T+1 -> T+2 -> ... -> Infinity Future

(2) the Unipolar ITICTCoT ...

T0 (Origin) -> T+1 -> T+2 -> ... -> Infinity Future

The Bipolar ITICTCoT is preferred because it shows the timepoints and UMECs from the past through the present into the future.

At each timepoint on the ITICTCoT there is a specific, unique, UMEC; thus, there is a link between a timepoint on the ITICTCoT and a UMEC.

The timepoint/UMEC link on the bipolar ITICTCoT will reveal the sequence of events, the simultaneities of events, the causalities of events, and the changerates of events.

Inre Philosophy, the If P, Then Q logical argument can be used to describe/prescribe/predict causalities.

P = Symbol for a single variable or multiple variables which are conditions/causes.
Q = Symbol for a single variable or multiple variables which are consequences/effects.

If P, Then Q means thus ...

If P/Condition(s)/Cause(s) is/are present, then Q/Consequence(s)/Effect(s) will occur/happen/be caused.

If P, Then Q Logical Argument

Premise #1: If P/Condition(s)/Cause(s), then Q/Consequence(s)/Effect(s).
Premise #2: P/Condition(s)/Cause(s).
Conclusion: Q/Consequence(s)/Effect(s).

If (P) a Not-Q is observed, then (Q) one of the following is the cause:

1. a P was missing;
2. several Ps were missing;
3. an additional P was present;
4. several additional Ps were present;
5. a combination of 1-2-3-4.

Causality is therefore described/specified/defined when precise Ps are observed to cause specific Qs.

The If P, Then Q logical argument describes the sequence of causality:

1. P -> 2. Q.

For causality to occur, there must be a physical contact/interaction inre the P and the Q which could be described in a three-part sequence of causality:

1. P -> 2. Interaction -> 3. Q.

The Law of Inertia ...

The Law of Inertia: A body at rest or in motion will remain at rest or in motion until acted upon by a force.

... and the Corollaries of the Law of Inertia ...

The Corollaries of the Law of Inertia:

1. A force is a form of m/e;
2. A force is a push (push-force) or a pull (pull-force);
3. Only a force can cause a change of inertial state;
4. The observation of a change of inertial state implies the change is an effect caused by a cause which is a force which is a form of m/e.

... can be converted to The Law of Causality ...

The Law of Causality: A physical state (including an inertial state) will remain unchanged until caused to change by a force.

... and the Corollaries of Law of Causality ...

The Corollaries of the Law of Causality:

1. A force is a form of m/e;
2. A force is a push (push-force) or a pull (pull-force);
3. Only a force can cause a change of physical state;
4. The observation of a change of physical state implies the change is an effect caused by a cause which is a force which is a form of m/e.

Lab experiments, starting with Sadi Carnot inre thermodynamics, the study of heat engines, and Antoine Lavoisier and his wife, Anne-Marie, inre chemistry (stochiochemistry), have proven that because (P) the sum total of m/e after an experiment is the same as the sum total of m/e before the experiment then (Q) m/e cannot be created nor destroyed.

Because (P) m/e cannot be created nor destroyed, then (Q) m/e was never created, caused or begun, and therefore has existed/endured, exists/endures now, and will continue to exist/endure infinitely in space and time.

If (P) without a creation, cause or beginning of m/e, then (Q1) there is no first cause and therefore (Q2) there is a source of causality which is the UMES in which causality has been occurring, occurs now, and will occur in the future.

Because the sum total of the UMEC at a specific timepoint on an ITICTCoT is a constant and cannot be changed, time travel, the travel of entities including people from one UMEC at one timepoint to another UMEC at another timepoint in the past or in the future is not possible. Time travel would require changing the UMEC at one starting timepoint and changing the UMEC at the target timepoint, both of which would be impossible because of the constant m/e sum total for a specific UMEC at a specific timepoint.
